House of Cards by Garrett Leigh (Port Ewan Bay Book #1)

TITLE: ⟫ House of Cards

AUTHOR: ⟫ Garrett Leigh

SERIES: ⟫ Porth Ewan Bay #1

RATING: ⟫ 5/5

BLURB:What's better than one broody tattoo artist? TWO, that's what. Hurt/comfort, friends-to-lovers, and forced proximity combine in this gorgeous second chance MM romance.

Calum Hardy’s life has unravelled. Reeling from the betrayal of a man he once loved, he boards a train heading south, with no real idea where he’s going except a world away from London.

Brix Lusmoore can hardly believe his eyes when he spots one of his oldest friends outside Truro station. He hasn’t seen Calum since he fled the capital himself four years ago, harbouring a life-changing secret. But despite the years of silence, their old bond remains, warm and true—and layered with simmering heat they’ve never forgotten.

Calum takes refuge with Brix and a job at his Porth Ewan tattoo shop. Bit by bit, he rebuilds his life, but both men carry the ghosts of the past, and it will take more than a rekindled friendship and the magic of the Cornish coast to chase them away.

*Previously published as part of the Porthkennack shared world series, these titles have been significantly reworked and re-edited, with strong links to the Rebel Kings MC universe*

REVIEW: ⟫ Oh my poor aching heart! When I saw that Garrett Leigh had released another story adjacent to the Rebel Kings, it was an instant click. And I thought I knew what to expect – the Rebel Kings stories have obliterated my heart more than once.

But then along came Calum and Brix and I truly knew heartbreak. Calum was such a gentle, beautiful soul that the beginning of this story brought out so much rage in my heart, I swear if Rob had been in front of me, I’d have skinned him alive. But fear not, Brix found Calum and offered him sanctuary.

The relationship between these two was so soft and easy, the trust rebuilding slowly, whilst the love between them was obvious to everyone but them. Brix has bricked himself behind a massive wall ever since his diagnosis, only letting people in so much before he hides again. He’s doing everything right to maintain his health but he’s not really living. Until Calum comes back into his life and he see someone he could want a future with. If only he wasn’t too scared to reach out for it.

Like pretty much every other Garrett Leigh book I’ve ever read, this one grabbed me by the heart and made it very difficult to care about anything else until I’d reached the conclusion. The characters – both new and those familiar to me from the other series – were fully fleshed, amusing, aggravating and people you could well imagine spending an evening with. But front and centre, Calum and Brix were absolutely spot on. I adored these two men and as we meandered our way to their happy end, I was grinning like a lunatic whilst wiping a tear from my eye. I’m seriously pleased that this is a new series and I cannot wait for Kim’s story. An obvious five star story for me.

I received an ARC from GRR.

A Spooky Legacy by S. E. Harmon (The Spectral Files #5)

TITLE: ⟫ A Spooky Legacy

AUTHOR: ⟫ S.E. Harmon

SERIES: ⟫ The Spectral Files #5

RATING: ⟫ 5/5

BLURB: ⟫ Rain Christiansen is settling into married life with fellow cold case detective, Daniel McKenna, and life is good. Better than good, even. But when it comes to the topic of expanding their family, Rain isn't so sure he's ready. Yes, a new addition could enrich their lives. But it could also tear down the delicate balance they’ve worked so hard to achieve. Do they really want to take that risk?

He’d love to brood over that a little more, but murder never takes a day off. A decade-old mystery of the missing Parker family is heating up. Most seem to think the Parkers pulled a disappearing act to get out of financial debt. It isn’t before the PTU finds out the reality is far grimmer than that. It seems that Quinn stumbled upon something better left hidden. Now that Rain has stumbled upon it, too, he has to be careful that he doesn’t meet the same fate.

Sometimes it amazes him how far he’s come from strait-laced FBI agent who couldn’t admit—even to himself—that he saw ghosts. He’s done the work, learning to get some measure of control of his paranormal side. And while his relationship with ghosts may not be perfect, it’s evolved into something symbiotic... which is a very good thing. Because in order to protect himself from the living, he might need a little help from the dead.

REVIEW: ⟫ I was so pleased when I saw that S.E. Harmon was doing another story in the Spooky files and this story didn’t disappoint. It was fantastic to be back with Rain and Danny, as well as the cast of usual suspects and to a certain extent, it felt like we’d never been apart.

I love Rain as a main character – he has no illusions about himself, about how grumpy and sarcastic he is – but there is also an understanding of just how lucky he is, despite all of the issues being able to communicate with ghosts have caused him. He and Danny are taking a truly grown up step, and we get to watch as Rain realises that he is ready, that he and Danny represent something good and kind, and that despite his flaws, Rain might just be exactly what is needed.

The cold case they are working is entertaining, twisty and downright insane on occasion, and we have our usual circumstances where Rain gets himself into situations that no-one else possibly could. I loved his interactions with the people in his life (his mother cracks me up every time she’s there), but throughout it all, I love that the relationship between he and Danny is centre stage. Slices of domestic life, including Watson, are treated with the respect that they deserve as Rain knows just how badly things can turn out for people through his work and his supernatural experiences.

This book was lovely to dive into – it was like turning on a new episode of your favourite TV programme where you know all of the characters and get to enjoy everything about them that you weren’t aware you missed. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this and so pleased with the conclusion where Rain begins to understand just a little about the new star.

I received an ARC from GRR.

His Guilty Pleasure by Leighton Greene (West Coast Mobsters #5)

TITLE: ⟫ His Guilty Pleasure

AUTHOR: ⟫ Leighton Greene

SERIES: ⟫ West Coast Mobsters #5

RATING: ⟫ 5/5

BLURB:When Redwood Manor's butler Darian is accused of murder during a high-stakes Mafia parley, he has to rely on the infuriatingly attractive Raffi DeLuca to prove his innocence—before one of the mobsters decides to take justice into their own hands.

Darian Thornfield-Hayes has always been content to fade into the background while he conducts his work with precision and perfection. But when murder threatens the fragile peace between rival Mafia factions staying at the Manor, he finds himself in the spotlight in the worst possible way.

Raffi DeLuca, acting head of security—and the flirtatious thorn in Darian’s side—jumps in to give him an alibi, claiming they spent the night together. But in doing so, Raffi finds himself compromising his honor and his vows to the Don.

When Darian and Raffi are forced to share a room to keep up the charade, the attraction simmering between them flares to life. Raffi sees past Darian's defenses to the real man underneath, awakening desires the untouched Darian never dared admit to before.

But Darian hasn't been telling the whole truth…

Torn between his heart and his duty, Raffi must decide how far he's willing to go to protect Darian.

Will their guilty pleasure be the key to solving the murders, or will secrets tear them apart?

***

His Guilty Pleasure is the fifth book in the West Coast Mobsters series. Follow the men of the Los Angeles underworld in this page-turning romantic suspense series as they find love, danger and mystery in the most unexpected places.

Each book in West Coast Mobsters tells the love story of a different couple who find their happy ending, as well as a resolution to the mystery they're investigating, but there are cliffhangers to the wider suspense plot for the series.

REVIEW: ⟫ Oh me, oh my, Darian and Raffi are absolutely delicious! As is this entire book – the plotting, the tension, the secrets! When I tell you that my daughter had to call me several times to get my attention because we were at a crucial stage in the parley, and that I nearly jumped out of my skin, that gives you an idea of the intrigue in this book.

Add in a LOT of Julian (we all know how much I freaking adore Julian by now, right?!), as well as Sandro, Miller, Teddy and basically the whole damned cast, and you know you are in for a rollicking ride! The Lion and the Psycho have their own special moments – Darian telling Julian off for appearing less than fully dressed made me snort so loud – as well as catching up with others from the previous books mean that it feels like returning to a dear, familiar friend but with a sharp dangerous new twist.

The sexual tension between Raffi and Darian, their dynamic and how protective they were of each other reminds me so much of ‘Married to the Boss’ which is quite possibly the highest compliment I can pay their relationship. I devoured this in just a few hours and must now apologise to my family members for ignoring them. Cats are so unforgiving!

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for a true and honest review, and honestly? Get this book because it was brilliant!

The Caretaker by CP Harris (Infidelity #3)

TITLE: ⟫ The Caretaker

AUTHOR: ⟫ CP Harris

SERIES: ⟫ Infidelity #3

RATING: ⟫ 5/5

BLURB: ⟫ The only thing Noon Waters is sure of is his undying love for his wife. But when a devastating accident ripped both her and a good deal of his memories away from him, he’s left to navigate a new life weighed down by grief, anger, and confusion.

After stumbling upon an old receipt dated one day prior to the tragic event, Noon’s curiosity leads him to Haley Cove, a place he can’t remember but is somehow certain holds the key to regaining his forgotten years.

So focused on the memories he hopes to recapture, Noon is unprepared for the oddly familiar stranger he finds there instead. As a tentative friendship between the two men blooms into something more, Noon’s reasons for being in the quaint town become less clear. What starts as a quest for answers ends with a revelation too painful to bear.

What happens when the beautiful life you thought you had lived was a lie, but that lie is all you can remember?

**The Caretaker is a MM romance and book 3 in the Infidelity series. It ends with a HEA, and can be read as a stand-alone but may be better enjoyed if read in series order. Themes include amnesia, hurt/comfort, and second chances. Both MCs are consenting adults. Please use the Amazon “Look Inside” feature for a full list of what you can expect.

REVIEW: ⟫ Well this one is going to rip your heart out and squeeze it into a million pieces in every chapter! My goodness – it’s 6 am in the morning and I’ve just finished reading The Caretaker and the bonus scene available on C.P. Harris’ website and I had to get down how I felt immediately.

Each time I begin to read one of their books, I find myself wondering if I will care about the characters as much as I did the first time. And each time, I find myself dragged into a maelstrom of emotions – fear, pain, love – literally tears making it hard to read the words but needing to keep reading because I need to know how they make it through the hell that they are in.

Noon and Solace are no different to Jasper, Cole, Leland, Frankie – they are human beings with good and bad within them, fighting to find a way through their life that means something and contains some happiness. And it is a battle – Noon and Solace fight to get back to each other, even when one of them isn’t aware that that’s what he’s doing. This story was just freaking masterful in the way it wove the past and the present together. Even when you KNOW what’s coming, it’s still so heartbreaking that there just aren’t words.

I think I’ve said it before that C.P. Harris is quite possibly one of the few authors that can make me read infidelity and understand it – the understanding of people’s motives, how they live and breathe, what they need – it shines through in each story, and the Caretaker is no exception.

I would dearly love it if this one was made into a movie – simply because I would love to see if there was a man out there who could play Noon in all of his seven foot, intimidating glory. That and I think the sex scenes would be hotter than fire.

An easy 5/5 from me and please don’t forget to read the bonus scene – it was the literal cherry on top of a perfect sundae!

Beyond Fate by Lee McCormick (Beyond Novella #1.5)

TITLE: ⟫ Beyond Fate

AUTHOR: ⟫ Lee McCormick

SERIES: ⟫ Beyond Book #1.5

RATING: ⟫ 5/5

BLURB: “Maybe in our next life, things will be different? It can be you and me. Maybe we’ll finally fit. Soulmates, right? So maybe…”

Clay

I’ve been on a hundred jobs, but I’ve never met a person like Jayce Holden. He’s everything I shouldn’t want, wrapped in a protective package that seems hellbent on making sure I’m safe from his family. Making sure I’m his.

I'm not sure what I want... not when my mission is to kill his father, and Jayce is the only person who knows where to find him.

Jayce

I’ve had a dream of the same man my entire life. Sometimes, he’s soft and sweet… and sometimes, he’s trying to kill me. Sometimes he does.

When Clay walks into my life, I recognize him immediately. I know I’ll do whatever it takes to keep him, whatever it takes to make him mine… even if it means defying my family and putting everything on the line.

BEYOND FATE is a dual POV novella that follows Jayce and Clay into the future for their shot at finding happiness in their next life. While connected to the Beyond universe, this is a uniquely crafted story set in the future to give two characters their very deserved happily ever after. Expect high heat, an assassin and the son of a mafia boss fighting for their chance at love, and the HEA that everyone demanded.

REVIEW: ⟫ I was one of those people who read the first book in this series and felt bad for Jayce and Clay, so when I heard that the author was going to release a novella featuring the two of them, I was so here for it. And this did not disappoint. Set in a non-disclosed future, Clay is an assassin for the government who does whatever is needed in order to get the job done. Including putting himself into the position to have to handle a serious sexual assault – all in a day’s work. But then the giant mechanic that keeps watching puts himself in the middle, messing up Clay’s plans for getting close to the big boss and suddenly, all bets are off.

The tension between Clay and Jayce is palpable from the very beginning and getting to see what they are thinking through the dual POV is excellent for understanding just what the heck is going on. Jayce has memories – dreams of Clay – that have been going on for a very long time and just wants to figure out what the hell is going on. And maybe see if Clay could be the one person in the horrid existence he is living that can make it all worthwhile. Clay, on the other hand, is discovering that there are things about his past and himself that he has no memories of and Jayce just happens to be one of them.

Despite being a novella, the story doesn’t rush straight into a relationship between the two of them. Instead, it simmers in the background whilst the story of a son desperate to get out from underneath the thumb of his evil father and the government assassin who should be using said, unknown son in order to get to the father hurtles along with a sense of impending doom hanging over everything. The interactions between Clay and Jayce get more and more intense, and things throw us into meeting characters that we completely and utterly hate (I’m talking Nick here) as well as hopefully someone we’ll meet again (Rhys) and this story grabs you and doesn’t let go.

I’m beyond excited for the next instalment and really pleased that Clay and Jayce got the action and romance that they deserved. A very satisfying novella and I recommend giving this author a read!

I received an ARC from GRR.

Eternally Blessed by Garrett Leigh (Rebel Kings MC Book #7)

TITLE: ⟫ Eternally Blessed

AUTHOR: ⟫ Garrett Leigh

SERIES: ⟫ Rebel Kings

RATING: ⟫ 5/5

BLURB:Locke

Three is the magic number. I gave them my heart, and they gave me theirs. But the downside of living my best life is that I have everything to lose. And sometimes it’s not the obvious thing that can rip it all away.

It’s fate.

It’s chance.

It’s the worst luck in the world for the soul who least deserves it, and the one cruelty I can’t take.

The one storm we can’t weather.

I’m not a religious man. Not even close. But I’m praying right now.

For her. For him. For me.

Cos there is no us without him, and I won’t survive it if everything we’ve fought for is nothing but a dream.

Eternally Blessed is the seventh instalment in the bestselling Rebel Kings MC series. An MMF romance with strong MM romance content, hurt/comfort, angst, found family, forced proximity, single dad, and friends-to-lovers tropes.

Content warnings for everything you’d expect from a gripping biker romance.

REVIEW: ⟫ Oh my heart!! What the hell, Garrett Leigh, I know I should have been prepared for how much this was going to rip my heart out of my chest but somehow, I wasn’t.

The cliffhanger that had me alternately screaming and worried cumulated in this book, and I finally understand why this couldn’t have gone into one book. There was SO much going on in this book – so much Locke, Orla and Nash went through – its really difficult to review without giving spoilers.

It seemed incredibly unfair that after everything that has happened to the Rebel Kings (but Locke in particular), that this is where things began in this novel. It was almost as if life waited until Locke finally took a breath and began to see how happy he could be, then cruelly ripped it out of his hands and plunged him back into hell. I was actually really angry – there’s unfair, there’s well damn, and then there is this book. I don’t understand how Garrett Leigh keeps managing to do this to me!

As always, the action and intrigue was top-notch, with all of the brothers we have come to know and love showing their fealty and love for each other. Alexei remains a favourite – I love his pithy comments and inability to show people how he feels apart from with violence, surveillance and sarcasm; Saint – I freaking adore Saint – but one of the favourite parts of this book for me was when the O’Brien’s were out without supervision – man, that was freaking awesome. And Orla is a queen indeed.

I know this is a bit rambly and incoherent – I wanted to be sure to give no spoilers because this is a book that needs to be read without ‘warnings’ so that you can appreciate every single twist and turn. Ultimately, trust the process – trust that Garrett might throw you high into the air, take your breath away and send you plummeting to earth with no safety net – but in the end, oh the ending was just sublime.

I really can’t express my love for this entire series coherently, but suffice it to say I will be waiting for the next book and may just take the time to marathon read all of the books again. An easy five from me.

Rogue by Onley James (Jericho's Boys Book #2)

TITLE: ⟫ Rogue

AUTHOR: ⟫ Onley James

SERIES: ⟫ Jericho’s Boys Book #2

RATING: ⟫ 5/5

BLURB: ⟫ Levi Akira’s existence is far from ideal. His mother's addiction consumes their lives, his academic standing is crumbling, and the convenience store he works at is a constant target for ruthless robberies. But amidst the chaos, Levi finds solace in only three things: his tight-knit group of friends, protecting his neighbourhood as one of Jericho’s Boys, and streaming his favourite video game, where he assumes the role of Rogue—a hero who will break the rules for the greater good.

Shiloh Mizrahi’s hope has all but dwindled. With one brother unjustly imprisoned, and the other a sadistic puppeteer, he endures daily torment at the hands of the latter. And his latest demand? Get close to Levi at any cost.

In the midst of another ordinary night shift, Levi's world is upended when a captivating and terrified stranger appears, brandishing a weapon and claiming he has been forced to kill Levi by his own brother. Levi, torn between self-preservation and an instinctive aversion to harming the vulnerable boy, takes a bold leap—he kisses him. And then, just like that, the boy disappears into the night, leaving Levi haunted by his memory.

Driven by an unshakeable connection, Levi's path crosses with Shiloh's once more, igniting a passionate bond that refuses to be extinguished. However, Shiloh harbours a labyrinth of secrets, torn between loyalty and desire. With his brother's freedom dangling in the balance, can Levi and Shiloh navigate the treacherous path to be together, or will Levi forever remain a hero confined to the online realm?

REVIEW: ⟫ I started reading this on Onley’s Patreon but Real Life got in the way and I decided to save it until the book was published.

I’m so glad I did because Levi and Shiloh’s story deserved to be devoured in one sitting, along with a box of tissues and a soothing cup of tea. If you’ve read the Necessary Evils stories, you know that these people meet their person and imprint like a duckling and Levi is no exception. But this time, he meets the love of his life at the end of a gun.

Shiloh broke my whole damned heart for so many reasons: Micah was a grade A A*hole who loved nothing more than torturing Shiloh mentally and physically, and as such Shiloh is expecting nothing good from his life. Which is why when Levi prevents him from committing murder on camera with a stunning kiss, he imprints just as much as the other man does.

Levi’s pain was of a whole different kind and man, this is where the tissues really came in handy. This boy had been through it and is still dealing with it in the form of his alcoholic mother. The only reason Levi hasn’t broken is his found family with Jericho and the rest of the Murder Muppets. Shiloh takes him completely by surprise but from the beginning, Levi is all in.

I admit that there were three ‘background’ characters that really grabbed me: Malachi, Shiloh’s brother was like ‘woof’ – I cannot wait to read more about him; Seven being flippant, bratty and downright needy made me laugh and LONG for his story; and then we met Enzo. OH MY GOODNESS. Seriously, these two didn’t interact that much on paper, but they burned up the room together in the short amount of time we spent with them and I am relishing finding out Enzo’s backstory. Which is coming – right?

Like the other stories in this series, this was wild, violent, sexy ride and I was more than happy to hold on to the ‘oh sh!t’ bar and make the most of it. Shiloh and Levi did not disappoint in any way, although reading what the two of them have gone through really made me feel kinda bleak more than once or twice.

Some of the Mulvaneys made an appearance, including Avi and Asa (I can never get enough of these two), and we got to see the family in action as they helped Levi help Shiloh. But this was definitely all about the Murder Muppets, with an excellent mix of old characters whilst allowing the newer ones to shine. Obviously I’m a big Onley James’ fan so it’s no surprise that this scored a five from me, but I would definitely say the tissues are needed for this one – it felt so much more emotionally wrenching, which would make sense since the Muppets are not psychopaths – they’re human, with past trauma, a need to belong and find someone to love. Which is precisely why they work so well.

Also, don’t forget to grab the bonus epilogue because it was the absolute cherry on the top of the cake!

MateHub: Legend by Marie Reynard

TITLE: ⟫ MateHub : Legend

AUTHOR: ⟫ Marie Reynard

SERIES: ⟫ Elemental Bonds

RATING: ⟫ 5/5

BLURB:The contract was simple: three months, seven scenes, zero feelings. Following it was not.

Richard Knotz is a legend in the world of supernatural adult entertainment, and he knows it. While most paranormal adult actors shy away from the temporary bonds needed to perform knotting scenes, he's made them his brand. Bonding a human could never threaten to tear his empire to the ground, no matter how tempting that human smells.

Hunter Savage thinks Richard Knotz is a smug son of a wolf, but when he's offered a contract to work with him, the payout is too lucrative to say no. Three months bonded to Richard could make his entire career. He just doesn't expect to find a soft side under Richard's prickly exterior, or for the apartment they're forced to share to start feeling like home.

The bonding contract is easy and painless as long as they remember one cardinal rule: don't get attached. Their employer has no use for unprofessional fools who let feelings jeopardize profits. But in between filming scorching scenes with ridiculous scenarios, they discover they're more compatible than either could have imagined.

As their limited time together winds down, they face a choice—risk their careers for the unexpected connection they've found, or lose their bond forever.

MateHub: Legend is a high heat, arranged bonding, forced proximity, dislike-to-love paranormal romance featuring an arrogant wolf shifter who thinks a little too highly of various parts of his anatomy, the feisty human who finally takes him down a few notches, nosy fans, meddling friends, knotting, and a contract that is destined to fail.

This stand-alone novel is set in the Elemental Bonds universe and guarantees a HEA for its main couple. It does not contain mpreg or cheating. Please look inside for content warnings.

REVIEW: ⟫ Should I wax lyrical about the characters of Hunter and Richard, who quickly became clear in my mind as this romp of a story went on? Or perhaps the forum/messenger posts between each chapter which were absolute gold and reminded me so much of my early fandom days?

I could go on about the humour, the banter, sexiness, grouchy but lovableness that practically permeated every page but more than anything, the scorching yet tender sex scenes which were so well written and never repetitive. What I will say is that as soon as I had finished this book, I was back on Amazon looking for more reads from the author, joining their newsletter and friending their Instagram. I stayed up all night reading the Elemental Bonds story that is available, and cannot quite decide which one that I need the sequel to first.

Really blown away by this story and so pleased that I received it as an ARC from GRR.

The Grim Adventures of Death and Chan by Vawn Cassidy - Volume 1

TITLE: ⟫ The Grim Adventures of Death and Chan

AUTHOR: ⟫ Vawn Cassidy

SERIES: ⟫ Volume 1

RATING: ⟫ 5/5

BLURB: ⟫ CRAWSHANKS GUIDE TO THE RECENTLY DEPARTED

A Dead Serious Companion Novella

Set in the Dead Serious Universe, The Grim Adventures of Death & Chan is a compendium of bonus shorts told in chronological order and documenting the hilarious but sweet beginnings of the relationship between a drag queen and the supernatural entity known as Death.

This Volume includes the following:

Death goes on a Date

Death goes Shopping

Death goes on Holiday

Death gets a Puppy

REVIEW: ⟫ This was absolutely delightful! I haven’t read any of the bonus shorts before but was entranced at the idea of reading about Chan and Death’s courtship and these did not disappoint!

Chan has always been an intriguing character and we learn much more about him through these shorts – more about him and Dusty, how they came to be drag queens and the deep friendship that they share – even beyond death.

And then we have Death with a capital D who sounds like a complete DILF and is obviously head over heels for Chan! Chan decides Death needs to learn what it is to be human and the shenanigans are sexy, sweet and touching in a way that Chan truly deserves.

I loved reading these shorts and look forward to reading more – especially if it includes Death in a speedo! I received an ARC from the author.

Beyond Time by Lee McCormick (Beyond Book #1)

TITLE: ⟫ Beyond Time

AUTHOR: ⟫ Lee McCormick

SERIES: ⟫ Beyond Book #1

RATING: ⟫ 5/5

BLURB:SETH

I always thought my world would begin and end with Jayce Walker. When a sleep study offers us life-changing money, we jump at the opportunity. There’s only one I don’t have insomnia. Bluffing my way in is easy, but getting there and losing everything that’s ever mattered is a nightmare I can’t escape.

Jayce is gone. My only ally is a voice in my head named Clay, who insists the body walking around — the one I’ve known and loved my entire life — belongs to a man named Kade, and he only wants one thing.

To kill me.

KADE

Most people don’t get second chances, but I did. Brought back to life by a power-hungry company, I have one thought: I want revenge.

But... the man I’m chasing isn’t Clay. His name is Seth, and all my years of being a heartless, psychopathic killer never prepared me for the way his wide eyes make me feel. I don’t know how to deal with the emotions still knocking around in my chest that used to belong to someone named Jayce.

They make me question things. They make me wonder if my agenda has changed…

I want to make Seth mine.

~~~
BEYOND TIME is a dual POV dark romance with a twist on soulmates that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Prepare yourself for scorching heat, high emotions, and a psychopath who doesn’t know what to do with all the feelings he’s suddenly being forced to experience. Guaranteed HEA with a universe that’s wide open for exploration!
REVIEW: ⟫ Well, I had no idea what I was letting myself in for, but boy oh boy, this kicked 2024 off with a bang!
The premise is so simple and yet full of twists, turns and idiosyncrasies and the characters are fully fleshed out – even the ones that are not at the forefront of the story for long become real through memories and feelings. The idea of bringing back assassins from the past is absolutely genius, and Clay and Kade were the ultimate duo. Their first task is to take the other one out – to prove that they are worthy – but both men have a personal stake in things. After all, Clay killed Kade once already.
Add to that baby-tiger Seth and the depths to his character that could not have been expected, and this book is an absolute roller-coaster of a ride. It’s actually difficult to know who to root for – the ultimate bad boy who decides from one taste of Seth that they are meant to be, or Clay who simply wants to keep Seth safe. And then we have Seth, who seems to be drawn to the very person who wants to kill him! It’s a troubling one – unless you’re used to, and love, the whole concept of Psychos in love!
I really enjoyed this and am very pleased to see that it is the first in a series – I can only imagine where the author will take things from here and I am excited to see where this goes.
I received an ARC from GRR.
Tied Over by Mary Calmes (Marshals Book #6)
TITLE: ⟫ Tied Over
AUTHOR: ⟫ Mary Calmes
SERIES: ⟫ Marshals Book #6
RATING: ⟫ 5/5
BLURB: ⟫ Josiah Redeker has been tied up, tied down, and just plain tied to Bodhi Callahan since the younger marshal was paired with him five years ago. It was an easy slide from partners to best friends, and though Bodhi wanted more, Josiah thought Bodhi could do far better than him. That made for a bumpy ride, and, of course, the moment Josiah realized that trying to live without the man he loved more than anything was not something he could do, that was when Bodhi broke the big news that he was getting married. Adding to that nightmare, they got reassigned as partners because other people needed them more.
It’s a disaster all around, and all Josiah sees ahead of him is pain—and not only from getting shot.
But what he thinks he knows for sure isn’t exactly all there is. Turns out, he’s not the only one who’s missing his touchstone, and Bodhi might be fraying at the edges, coming undone. When two people have been tied together over and over for so long, it’s not so easy to get loose. And maybe neither wants to be free of the other, and that could be their future, as long as no one comes between them… with a gun.
REVIEW: ⟫ This one has been coming for some time and Mary Calmes did not disappoint.
Jed Redeker is determined that his partner, fellow marshall, Bodhi Callahan should only have the best. And despite how much Jed loves him, he is also pretty determined that there is someone more worthy of Bodhi’s love than he.
That lasts until Bodhi finally seems to give up on his pining and moves on with his life, falling in love and getting engaged. That’s what it takes for Jed to realise that he has lost his chance at having Bodhi be his partner in all ways, and life kinda sucks. Add to that getting shot and being forced to vacation with Bodhi and his fiance and Jed is pretty sure he’s in hell.
Man, I had forgotten how much I loved the way Mary Calmes writes her characters. They’re not perfect – both Jed and Bodhi are argumentative, pig-headed, stubborn, know it alls with alpha male stamped all over them. But the streak of protectiveness in each of them and just how much they care about each other make them pretty much perfect together. It is a tried and trusted method that Mary Calmes uses – the main lead who everyone loves and sees in the best possible way, along with the partner who just has to get them to get their head out of their behind to see how happy they could be together. And it totally worked with Jed and Bodhi – no matter how frustrating the two of them could be (Jed is so determined that Bodhi has the best that he ignores his own desires for FOUR years), you are still rooting for them to make it.
Add in fellow marshals from the past – including Sam Kage who is one of my absolute fave of Mary’s characters, alongside Miro and Ian of course – and this story took me away from daily life and into the whirlwind that is the Marshals series. If you’ve read any of the other books, you know pretty much what you are in for: action, romance, banter, friendship, and men who will stand in front of a bullet for someone because it’s the right thing to do.
I regularly re-read the previous Marshals books, and having book six to add to that re-read list makes me a very happy person!
Weddings, Christmas and Such by Amy Lane (Holiday Stories from Granby)
TITLE: ⟫ Weddings, Christmas and Such
AUTHOR: ⟫ Amy Lane
SERIES: ⟫ Holiday Stories from Granby
RATING: ⟫ 5/5
BLURB: ⟫ Welcome back to the world of Granby, where the yarn is soft, the knitting is fine, and the critters are never far off.... After the happy ever after of Blackbird Knitting in a Bunny's Lair, Jeremy and Aiden continued to be fan favorites, and author Amy Lane visited them from time to time in a series of whimsical shorts that were posted on her blog and Patreon. Those shorts, together with a brand-new, never before seen Christmas novel featuring the entire Granby family, are gathered here in Weddings, Christmas, and Such, a collection of stories that show the good times in the bad, and the hope even in the darkness. Welcome back to the world of Granby—Jeremy, Aiden, Craw, Ben, Stanley, Johnny, Ariadne, Rory, and baby Persephone are all happy to see you again!
In This The Gift of a
The folks at Craw's mill and shop have always knitted for each other's big holidays, but one person in their midst hasn't been entirely honest about his own birthday... Ariadne and Rory are going off on a much-needed vacation--are Jeremy and Aiden prepared for full-time childcare and all the hard questions it might entail?
And the Mountains Should
Hard times have come to Granby--can Craw and his small patchwork family survive fire in the pandemic, and find something to be thankful for on the other side?
Weddings and
After all the troubles and some years of peace, it really is time for everybody to get married. Has Jeremy come far enough along from his rabbit days to be the center of attention while his boy makes an honest man out of him?
Crocheting Hawks and Knitting Christmas
Gideon Haze and Pippen Madison commit a near-tragic mistake, and everybody's favorite bunny is laid up for Christmas! Can the bodyguard and his vulnerable charge find a way to atone for their lapse in judgment and grow into the men who can make themselves and their new Granby family safe from Pippen's dangerous father?
REVIEW: ⟫ The chicken in a Tuxedo on the front cover is fully explained, I promise.
Do you ever experience that feeling where you return somewhere and think, yeah, it was okay at the time but nothing special now? What about when you return somewhere and remember everything good about it, how it made you feel, the way it touched your heart and mind? Returning to Granby is definitely the latter – I only vaguely remembered Jeremy and Aiden until I started reading and my brain went ‘oh yes, happy place!’
Not that these stories are all happy – some of them are quite poignant, they remind us of a difficult time that the world went through, the struggles many are currently facing. But they also give us hope and faith that if we find our family – by blood or by choice – then we can make it out the other side.
I promised myself I was just going to read one of the short stories, and here I am at 6 am in the morning, sniffing away happy tears and writing these reviews whilst I still have all of those Granby feelings still in my heart. Having this now – for Christmas – may just be exactly what I needed to get me through the next few weeks, and I can only imagine the feeling is similar for so many other people. How Amy Lane continues to manage to rip my heart out with one hand, whilst giving me the mushiest love feelings of all time with the other is beyond me, but this book of stories is a perfect addition to Granby.
And, hey, if you can’t quite remember reading the Knitting/Crochet books, what better treat than to get them all for yourself in time for Christmas!
The 12 Kittens of Christmas by Amy Lane
TITLE: ⟫ The 12 Kittens of Christmas
AUTHOR: ⟫ Amy Lane
RATING: ⟫ 5/5
BLURB: ⟫ Killian Thornton likes his downtown life, tending bar, and enjoying time with his friends and community. He'd given up on passion long ago—he wasn't cut out for grand romance or dramatic gestures. Then one night, in a characteristic act of kindness, Killian offers his couch to help a friend's little brother find his feet in a new city, and everything Killian thought he knew about himself and his little life gets turned upside down.
Lewis Bernard, the funny, quirky guy happy to find a spot on Killian's couch, can’t believe his luck. After being forced to flee his parents’ house, he was afraid of what came next, but Sacramento seems to be treating him just fine. The stunningly handsome bartender who lives downstairs from his brother offers Lewis his couch and doesn’t even balk when Lewis discovers two abandoned kittens in a vacant lot as they walk home.
Vet bills, cat food bills, litter boxes—none of it was on Killian's Christmas agenda, but he jumps in gamely to help because all the shelters seem to be full, and that's just the kind of guy Killian is. But kittens can multiply faster than rabbits, and Killian and Lewis accidentally rescue more and more cats.
Lewis starts to panic. He really wants to know Killian better, but with each act of kindness, Lewis falls further in love while ruining Killian's life. How can Killian find time to fall in love with Lewis and ask him to stay if they’re inundated with destructive furry poop-machines who all seem to need a home before Christmas?
REVIEW: ⟫ Oh my goodness, the cover for this book is absolutely perfect!
Right, on to the story! This was absolutely gorgeous – I read it on 1st December and it completely put me in the mood for Christmas. Killian was an absolute ANGEL who deserved everything and Lewis is just that!! And the cats – Boris and Natasha were so cute together, but Moose and Squirrel may well own my whole heart!
You have the traditional Amy Lane ability to create main characters that you love and want the best for; a cast of background characters who were the best friends available; and best thing ever for the festive season, there were SO many Easter Eggs from other series that I absolutely loved. You don’t need to have read any of them but it was a lovely nod to regular readers.
I’m about to put on some Christmas songs and head into another book – this one was absolutely brilliant and I am so glad it was the beginning of my Christmas reading.
The Fishermen by C.P. Harris (Infidelity #2)
TITLE: ⟫ The Fishermen
AUTHOR: ⟫ C.P. Harris
RATING: ⟫ 5/5
BLURB: ⟫ At the age of twenty-five, Leland Meadows has his whole life mapped out in front of him, with four rules to live by:
No new friends.
No dreams or aspirations.
No repeat hookups.
And definitely no committed relationships.
Leland’s looking for safety, not heartbreak and disappointment. Then one day he receives an offer he can’t turn down. Rent is due, and the catering company his best friend’s sister works for is suddenly one server short for the biggest event of the year. Leland accepts the job—but those rules he’s been so careful to follow? They don’t stand a chance against Franklin Kincaid.
At forty-five, the lie Franklin Kincaid has been living his entire life catches up with him.
His job no longer fulfils him—if it ever had.
His marriage is in crisis.
His heart yearns for something he can’t identify—or maybe he’s just too terrified to admit it.
And his children are clueless about all of it.
On a cold and lonely night, Franklin’s search for courage leads him to a rooftop in down-town Seattle, where he finds Leland Meadows instead.
Neither of them would ever be the same again…
***The Fishermen is a best friend’s dad MM romance and Book 2 in the Infidelity series. Each book features a new couple, can be read as a stand-alone, and ends with a HEA. Themes include age-gap, possessiveness, hurt/comfort, and second chances. Both MCs are consenting adults. Please use the Amazon “Look Inside” feature for a full list of content warnings.
REVIEW: ⟫ No one does messy relationships like C.P. Harris and boy, was this story full of messy relationships.
Having read the first book in the Infidelity series and grabbed hints about Leland and Franklin, I was confused by the start of this book. Had I misinterpreted what was going on? Were they not the people I was thinking they were? This misdirect was masterful – the story wouldn’t have had anywhere near the impact that it did if it wasn’t for (a) reading the first book and (b) the stellar writing.
Leland refuses to connect to anyone. Well, he allows himself one person but that’s it – his trust won’t extend further. So finding himself getting to know Franklin, telling him things that he hasn’t revealed ever before and falling into a ‘summer’ together was never on his radar.
Franklin is at a crossroads where his perfect looking life is beginning to crumble – along with the person that he presented to the world and kinda thought he was. How do you stay married to someone, live your life, when everything inside you is screaming for just a bit of freedom? He feels like a failure as a husband and a father and has no idea where to go from there. Taking Leland’s hand and ‘looking down’ is the beginning of a journey that he would in no way ever have been able to prepare for, or expect.
Oh man, this story took us down some dark paths and even though I fell down this rabbit hole willingly, I still wasn’t prepared for what was going to happen. Leland and Franky were so destructive, so blinded by their past and present that you could see the damage they were going to cause each other and yet you followed along with them. It was like watching a car crash between your fingers, feeling pain for the people involved in it, wanting to hug them, cry with them – coming out of this story felt like awakening from a different universe and the book hangover is real.
C.P. Harris is quite possibly the only person who could have me reading about infidelity and cheering on the adulterers – now THAT is talent. Told in three main parts, this book provides background to Jasper and Cole’s life growing up and just how much Franklin did to try to protect them from anything and everything. And because it’s an older protagonist, there is a lifetime of mistakes and experiences that Franklin regretted and wished he could change. All of this went into his relationship with Leland because Leland was absolutely the only person that Franky could be himself with. Not even just warts and all – Leland knew the good, the bad and the ugly about Franky but loved him anyway. Loved him fiercely and without reservation in a way that could only lead to hurt because neither of them were ready.
I worry that this review is just incoherent ramblings as I try to encourage people to read this story without ruining any of it. C.P. Harris is one of my auto-buys and hasn’t let me down once. Even when I’m shaking my head at the circumstances her characters get themselves into, I’m flipping pages desperate to see how things turn out. It really is brilliant writing to capture human nature whilst inspiring hope for the future – the world may be dark, people may let us down, cause us pain and damage, and yet hope remains. That is special.
I can’t leave this review without talking about the sex scenes. They were – well, almost feral and base and primitive. I don’t think I’ve ever read the kink that Franklin displays and was kinda shocked at how into it he was, but dang, it was hot af and suited his well-hidden caveman perfectly.
I need to go and read something light and fluffy to recover from this hangover, but I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I have an idea who might feature in it (and am SO here for it) but in the meantime, I heartily recommend this book. Just make sure you have tissues, time and an open mind before you start!
The Face Man by Amy Lane (A Long Con Adventure)
TITLE: ⟫ The Face Man (Long Con Adventures)
AUTHOR: ⟫ Amy Lane
RATING: ⟫ 5/5
BLURB: ⟫ Torrance Grayson has forged a solid independent journalism career with help from his friend and mentor, Felix Salinger, and he's relished being the face of the Salinger crew, exposing the corruption of the powerful while keeping his friends safe in their anonymity. But being face to face with the worst in the world takes its toll, and when Tor has a moment of weakness, it's the Salingers who come to bail him out.
During his recovery, Tor makes friends with the household's confident, charismatic young chef, Marco. Their quiet conversations make Marco more and more reluctant to confront Tor on the grave mistake the man is about to make in his current exposé—a mistake that can harm Marco's loud, boisterous family irrecoverably.
Tor is more than willing to listen—and to correct any mistakes. He's seen graphic proof that he's not infallible, and he'll go to any lengths to avert tragedy. But as Tor works toward the truth of what's happening with Marco's family, Marco begins to develop deep suspicions about the people they both work for. Torrance Grayson is in deep with the Salingers, and Marco isn't sure he should know any more than necessary about people who seem to be great bosses but shady citizens.
In order to help Marco, Tor needs to trust him—and that means to trust him with the truth of the Salinger Crew, as well as with his heart. But in a world of capers and crime-fighting, trust, it appears, is worth more than gold and jewels. Tor can expose crime and injustice with impunity, but can he expose his heart to Marco, a man who desperately wants in?
REVIEW: ⟫ Okay, I defy anyone to read this and not want to give Tor a humongous hug, followed by some of Marco’s delicious food because he needs to know that we love all of him and not just how gorgeous he is!
I was fascinated by this read because it references the previous book and we get to see the aftermath – our fabulous team are a little bruised and battered, showing their humanity and just how broken they are, whilst also demonstrating incredibly well how they have each other’s backs and understand the demons that drive each of them.
I loved the introduction of Marco’s cousins; Tor’s cameraman Phil was a quiet favourite of mine; Josh is beginning to recover fully which has me squeeing with delight because that means he and Liam can move past ‘potential’ to full on LOVE; Grace continues to break my heart and give me hope – the whole team is here and in full effect and this was a fantastic ride.
Marco and Tor were beautiful together and I adored the way that Marco took control of Tor, let him know that he was loved and wasn’t too proud to go to any of the others for help in figuring out his man. The sex scenes between them were alternately hot, steaming and just so damned touching – phew! This book – the con, the parties, the descriptions of the grift along with the family and lover dynamics was exactly what I needed. Just absolutely perfect – if you know Amy and have read any of the rest of the Long Con Adventures, then you know what to expect.
Literally read this in one day (I will apologise to my cats for the disruption to normal attention levels) and I plan to grab all of the Long Con Adventures and read them ALL in one go (when my TBR goes down). No surprise that this was a five for me!
I received an ARC from the author.
**
Dive into a forbidden romance between a psychopath assassin and a Mob Enforcer. Get ready for seductions and betrayals, scorching love scenes, and an unforgettable romance as a cold case comes back to haunt two Families sworn to destroy each other.
Review: ⟫ Oh, Julian! I have wanted his story from the first time I met him and I was in no way disappointed! And the Lion! Oh my good Lord!
These two burned up the page – the psychopath (not officially diagnosed) and the henchman make an absolutely amazing couple, and adding to the whole BDSM club sexy madness, we have the mystery of who killed Julian’s mother.
There are plot points in here that had my mouth dropping in awe and glee; the sex scenes were hotter than Hades and I was absolutely engrossed in the whole story. Okay, I admit it – I’ve read it twice since I got the ARC which is NOT GOOD because I have five other ARCs to read – but I just wanted to immerse myself in the details and glory in the beauty that is Julian and Leo. Two more suited individuals I have yet to read, and the fact that both of them were trying to deny what it was made it completely and utterly delicious.
We also get Xander, Jack, Miller and Teddy as well as meeting other capos, many of whom don’t survive the book! In case it’s not obvious, I freaking adored this book and I am just so incredibly pleased that Julian lived up to all of his previous billing. An easy five stars from me and I am so in love with the West Coast mobsters that they almost replaced my other favourites in Leighton’s series.
I received an ARC from GRR.
For The Fans by Nyla. K
Title: ⟫ For The Fans
Author: ⟫ Nyla. K
Rating: ⟫ 5/5
Blurb:Kyran Harbor is everything I’m not.
Rich. Popular. A superstar football player who’s awfully broody for someone who has it all. Basically, he’s a preppy jock who hates me. Oh, and he’s also my stepbrother.
That’s right. We’re stuck together, sharing a school, a house… A bathroom. Honestly, I wouldn’t care… If he wasn’t such an uptight control-freak who messes with me just because we’re different.
I had every intention of avoiding him when we got to college… Until abrupt misfortune forces us both into a compromising position.
Now the grouchy jerk I was hoping to evade might be the only person who can help me out of it.
Avi Vega is everything I despise.
A dreamer. A flake. An artist who smokes too much weed and thinks aliens exist. And by some sick cosmic joke, he’s now my stepbrother, following me on what should’ve been my escape plan.
It was already a disaster. Add a sudden financial disruption to the mix, and let’s just say my options are heavily limited.
If I want to stay an all-star quarterback on the way to the NFL, I’ll need to do something drastic. Unfortunately for me, and my desperate desire for control, the perpetually smiling stoner has a plan.
Maybe we can stop hating each other just enough to pull this off. As long as we remember we’re only doing it… for the fans.
**For The Fans is a full-length standalone MM forbidden romance with an HEA. This book contains sensitive subject matter that could make some readers uncomfortable. Please heed foreword warnings and proceed with caution.
Review: ⟫ I wasn’t expecting this story – not in any way, shape or form. I certainly wasn’t expecting to feel so much for both Avi and Kyran. The premise was interesting enough to grab my attention, and initially, the story (although good) followed a well-worn path. Stepbrothers are forced into proximity to each other, then forced to rely on each other and get physical. I was also a teeny bit squeamish about the whole thing with Kyran being paid to do things with Avi.
But very quickly, the story became so much more than that. It was obvious something was going on with Kyran – the way he bolted from what he was doing with Avi, the confusion and anger he displayed – it was intriguing and mysterious and kept me reading.
The sex scenes were hot, and the banter between the two of them was even hotter – Not_His_Baby has got to be one of the best handles I’ve ever seen. But what kept me reading and interested throughout was what was beneath all of the sex and chemistry between the two men – Avi’s insecurities, and Kyran’s need to be perfect. And that is where this book hits you with both barrels.
I appreciated the fact that the author provided warnings on her website although I chose to go in blind. I would definitely recommend reading the trigger warnings if you have any concerns about reading this story because although I think the entire situation/reveal was handled very well, I don’t have the same experiences in my background and YMMV.
I really enjoyed reading this story – much more than other books I have read by the author – and I especially liked the fact that Kyran took some time to figure things out for himself. Avi wasn’t his saviour even though he called him his Angel. The way he confronted the people who had hurt him in the past was also handled very well – he got to speak his truth and it made me feel so happy and almost triumphant for him.
Totally unexpected, hot, steamy but also thoughtful, this was a very good read.
Love Thy Brother by Garrett Leigh (Rebel Kings MC #4)
Title: ⟫ Love Thy Brother (Rebel Kings MC #4)
Author: ⟫ Garrett Leigh
Rating: ⟫ 5/5
Blurb: ⟫ The fourth instalment in the bestselling Rebel Kings series
Expect: His brother’s best friend. His best friend’s little brother. The soft-hearted bear and the rowdy chaos gremlin. The inevitable only happens when you let it.
“Riv, if you ever let me speak, you’d know exactly how I feel.”
I’ve told him that a thousand times, but River’s stubborn streak is a mile wide.
He doesn’t want to hear it.
To him, we doomed.
Cursed.
Forbidden.
Because he thinks I love a goddamn motorcycle club more than him.
My worst nightmare is losing him before I get the chance to change his mind, and in our world, bad dreams come true. Our reality is mess and pain, but I love him. And he loves me.
And I’ll fight for us to the end.
Love Thy Brother is a hurt/comfort MM romance from the best-selling Rebel Kings MC series. Content warnings for violence, off page abuse, self-harm, and grief.
Review: ⟫ I didn’t realise how much I needed Rubi and River’s story until I received this. I began reading it just after midnight and didn’t sleep until I’d finished it.
This story is a gut-punch for so many reasons, not least because of the pain our two main leads are dealing with. River is a complex character, in love with Rubi, deeply caring but also wanting absolutely nothing to do with the MC that is Rubi’s life. He struggles with addiction, has a hair trigger and feels like he’s never going to have the man he wants almost more than life itself and it seems to be leading him down a self-destructive path.
Rubi is struggling – his health is messed up following the big hit on the club, his emotions are all over the place and his legendary chill seems to have deserted him. All of that on top of how he feels about River and what he allowed himself to do.
This had much more ‘local’ issues than previous books – there isn’t a real need for Alexei to work his magic, but the club still has to handle some stuff, including ones that drag River back to where he swore he would never return.
The relationship between Rubi and River is incendiary, but Garrett Leigh is a master of writing characters that make you feel incredibly deeply for them. You need them to get their HEA, and are willing to do through the highs and lows with them on the way. We also catch up with our previous throuple/couples including Cam, Saint and Alexei, and Embry and Mateo.
This was a very intense read that had me concentrating hard to follow all of the plotlines, and the darkness and violence is definitely on a par with the previous books in the series. There is no pulling back from the violence, drugs and harsh emotions inherent in the lifestyle and it reminded me very much of the first few seasons of Sons of Anarchy.
No surprise that this is a 5/5 from me and I look forward to book #5 in the series. I received an ARC from GRR.
Review: ⟫ I have crawled out of my sickbed to write this review immediately because I just HAD to!
I absolutely adored the first book in the West Coast Mobsters series and must admit when I started reading this one I was thrown a little. The tone was different, more sombre. Jack was a major flirt from the get-go, whereas Sandro is dark, sombre and threatening and I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. Teddy came across as cute and sweet but I wasn’t sure how I felt about him either.
But then I found that I was racing through the book, trying to figure out the mystery and absolutely falling in love with Teddy and Sandro together. There are a lot of suspects – like, A LOT – and it was fascinating watching as Teddy helped Sandro through the unconventional means of Cute Crims and they tried to untangle what was going on.
Sandro has an absolutely filthy mouth and things between the two of them were hotter than hot – like, take a cold shower then come back ready to dive back in kind of hot. Him falling in love with Teddy was so obvious and it was heartening how sincere Teddy was in his feelings for Sandro – he has been more than obsessed for the longist time and to finally spend time with Sandro has made all of his fanboy dreams come true. But there’s more, and their relationship is actually really beautiful. Sandro finally accepting that he is beautiful and that what Teddy feels for him is real was painful and lovely at the same time, which made the entire betrayal situation so much more painful.
Jack and Miller were here, moreso Jack because of his commitment to assist Sandro. And we get the face-off between the two of them that we have been waiting for and can I just say? Film this ish because it would be so completely epic watching them duke it out.
As always, the intricacies of being in a Mafia family are handled beautifully – you know that these are not the good guys, but don’t care because it is so completely and utterly fascinating. I did not see the initial twist coming – I kick myself because the clues were all there and once it was revealed I could see it immediately. I am pleased to say that I figured out the main thing but to be honest, even that held a surprise for me in the reasoning.
I know, I know, I’m trying not to do spoilers so it’s like I’m speaking in code, so I guess what I really want to say is that this was an epic second story in the series and I would give much to live in Leighton Greene’s brain and speak to the characters directly so I didn’t have to wait for the stories to be written.
As per my previous deep, dark desire, Julian is getting his book next and I am so extremely excited for it, my hands are shaking! I received an ARC from GRR.
The First and The Last by Jesse H. Reign
Title: ⟫ The First and the Last
Author: ⟫ Jesse H. Reign
Rating: ⟫ 5/5
Blurb:“Why would I choose, when anyone can see the two of you come as part of a package?”
That’s what she said. Those were the words that changed my life.
Until then Jules and I were friends. Best friends only. Best friends since before we could remember. We had to be. We were the last two wolves born into an ageing pack. Our pack was secretive and a little backward, but we had a great life. Sure, our alpha was a bit of a douche, but all alphas are douches. Everyone knows that. Thank God, Jules and I were both going to be betas.
The night new-girl Storm refused to choose between Jules and I, changed everything. The way I looked at him changed forever. He went from my goof-ball best friend, to being the hottest creature I’d ever seen. At the time I thought it was the end of the world.
It wasn’t the end of the world...It was just the beginning.
Then our first shift happened, and confusion hit harder.
Why was one of us acting distinctly douche-y? And why was the other running a fever and pleading for things only an omega would want?
The First and The Last is a paranormal omegaverse MM romance. It features a bi-awakening that happens during a shared experience with a woman. It contains a dash of knotting, a pinch of gratuitous violence, and a heat that’s hot enough to put your eReader at risk of melting. This story does not contain MPREG.
Review: ⟫ This book was the one that sent me down a Jesse H. Reign rabbit-hole, so I was surprised to find that it was the first foray into PNR.
Sully and Jules were absolutely awesome – they fit together so incredibly well from the beginning and the awful summer that Sully spent without Jules really brought that home almost immediately. The interactions were so honest, so real, that I wondered when the penny was going to drop about their feelings for each other. The introduction of Storm, a female werewolf, could well have led to an epic falling out. Instead, it led to the two of them discovering a whole new dynamic. I was surprised – I didn’t expect things to be quite so explicit between the three of them, but it didn’t take away from the book, or make me feel like it should have been labelled MFM like some other stories have.
Once the two of them were sent away, things got even hotter. And I admit it, I was expecting the dynamics to be the other way around – I don’t know why, I just did. However, I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest – this book got ALL of that right and then some. I loved how the omega/alpha dynamic was explored, with the power shifting between them so that the balance was maintained.
I really enjoyed how things were built up between Jules and Sully – you could almost feel their skin itching as changes began, and then the way they dealt with things afterwards was incredibly hot. I was concerned about how things would go once they went home, but even then I was pretty well satisfied. I’m not quite sure how I feel about Sully’s mother – there is a part of me that feels like she could have been clearer with the boys about what was going on, and sending them away with no information or instruction felt a bit ‘Dumbledore-esque’.
As a final aside, I loved Mrs O’Malley and would have loved to see her fly!
