Do you ever experience that feeling where you return somewhere and think, yeah, it was okay at the time but nothing special now? What about when you return somewhere and remember everything good about it, how it made you feel, the way it touched your heart and mind? Returning to Granby is definitely the latter – I only vaguely remembered Jeremy and Aiden until I started reading and my brain went ‘oh yes, happy place!’

Not that these stories are all happy – some of them are quite poignant, they remind us of a difficult time that the world went through, the struggles many are currently facing. But they also give us hope and faith that if we find our family – by blood or by choice – then we can make it out the other side.

I promised myself I was just going to read one of the short stories, and here I am at 6 am in the morning, sniffing away happy tears and writing these reviews whilst I still have all of those Granby feelings still in my heart. Having this now – for Christmas – may just be exactly what I needed to get me through the next few weeks, and I can only imagine the feeling is similar for so many other people. How Amy Lane continues to manage to rip my heart out with one hand, whilst giving me the mushiest love feelings of all time with the other is beyond me, but this book of stories is a perfect addition to Granby.

And, hey, if you can’t quite remember reading the Knitting/Crochet books, what better treat than to get them all for yourself in time for Christmas!

REVIEW: ⟫ Oh my goodness, the cover for this book is absolutely perfect!

Right, on to the story! This was absolutely gorgeous – I read it on 1st December and it completely put me in the mood for Christmas. Killian was an absolute ANGEL who deserved everything and Lewis is just that!! And the cats – Boris and Natasha were so cute together, but Moose and Squirrel may well own my whole heart!

You have the traditional Amy Lane ability to create main characters that you love and want the best for; a cast of background characters who were the best friends available; and best thing ever for the festive season, there were SO many Easter Eggs from other series that I absolutely loved. You don’t need to have read any of them but it was a lovely nod to regular readers.

I’m about to put on some Christmas songs and head into another book – this one was absolutely brilliant and I am so glad it was the beginning of my Christmas reading.

REVIEW: ⟫ Okay, I defy anyone to read this and not want to give Tor a humongous hug, followed by some of Marco’s delicious food because he needs to know that we love all of him and not just how gorgeous he is!

I was fascinated by this read because it references the previous book and we get to see the aftermath – our fabulous team are a little bruised and battered, showing their humanity and just how broken they are, whilst also demonstrating incredibly well how they have each other’s backs and understand the demons that drive each of them.

I loved the introduction of Marco’s cousins; Tor’s cameraman Phil was a quiet favourite of mine; Josh is beginning to recover fully which has me squeeing with delight because that means he and Liam can move past ‘potential’ to full on LOVE; Grace continues to break my heart and give me hope – the whole team is here and in full effect and this was a fantastic ride.

Marco and Tor were beautiful together and I adored the way that Marco took control of Tor, let him know that he was loved and wasn’t too proud to go to any of the others for help in figuring out his man. The sex scenes between them were alternately hot, steaming and just so damned touching – phew! This book – the con, the parties, the descriptions of the grift along with the family and lover dynamics was exactly what I needed. Just absolutely perfect – if you know Amy and have read any of the rest of the Long Con Adventures, then you know what to expect.

Literally read this in one day (I will apologise to my cats for the disruption to normal attention levels) and I plan to grab all of the Long Con Adventures and read them ALL in one go (when my TBR goes down). No surprise that this was a five for me!

REVIEW: ⟫ A Salt Bitter Sea is more of an ensemble piece than a romance novel – the lives of all of the Luck Mechanics are so intertwined, it couldn’t really be any other way.

I’ll admit that Miller wasn’t really on my radar when reading the first book and I may well reread it to see what Piers sees in him. This book is another rapid descent into magical insanity, with Miller being able to tell them that something ‘bad’ is coming. The sheer disbelief when not only do they believe him but make plans based on what he says is so obvious – you can feel Miller waiting for the other shoe to drop as these people accept something about him that even his parents didn’t.

The romance between Piers and Miller felt like it was in the background for quite a chunk of time, which is a shame as they have a fascinating dynamic. We find out more about the ghosts around Tom’s bench and what can be done for them, as well as adding at least two new people to the core group.

This was an enjoyable romp, full of suspense, terror-inducing ideas, love and found-family, and a very good additional to the series. There is still more coming the way of the Luck Mechanics and I look forward to seeing just how all of their gifts together can make things better for everyone.

Review: ⟫ This one hit the floor running and pretty much went full tilt from there!

The beginning of a new series finds us meeting Judson Crosby, a good cop put in a bad situation who finds a transfer to a new city and new unit makes his life immeasurably better. And that’s before he gets a new partner.

Calix Garcia starts on a new team, with a new partner, wanting this to be the best thing in his life. And rapidly finds that not only has he found the perfect workplace, but quite possibly the perfect partner – in more than one way. And that all happens in the first few chapters!

What happens after that is vintage Amy Lane – we have bad guys, even worse guys, an intricate plot that you have to pay close attention to, and a set of characters that you very swiftly come to care very much about. It’s kinda obvious by now that I absolutely freakin’ loved this book! I started reading and found myself absorbed immediately, trying to remember who was who, and figure out what was happening, all whilst rooting for our guys to get something resembling a happily ever after. Calix and Judson were good people and the way they were with each other, both caring, a little possessive, loving and downright hot for each other was perfect.

The plot was intricate and deeply involved, with The Sons of Blood who were similar to the KKK but working within the police force and other agencies. It also involved drugs, crooked lawyers and politicians and a set of people who were determined that justice was deserved for all – regardless of their race, creed, sex or colour. It reminded me very much of the Marshals in Mary Calmes’ series which means I am already jonesing for the next story.

An easy 4.5/5 from me and I heartily recommend it to anyone who likes a lot of action amidst their steaming hot sex.

Sean's Sunshine by Amy Lane (The Flophouse Series #3)

Review: ⟫ Do you know that feeling when you’ve read a really satisfying book and your heroes have got their HEA? But sometimes you just want to see a few slice of life things – domesticity and how they live together? Well Sean and Billy did this kinda backwards because to begin with we get the slice of life.

Recovering from a stab wound that almost cost him his life, Sean has been ‘assigned’ a nurse from none other than the Flophouse full of Johnnie’s boys and he’s really not sure how he feels about it. He appreciates the offer, but really, just how long is it going to take him to recover and what’s a porn star going to do to help him get around until he’s back on his feet?

This story is full of the frenetic insanity that always surrounds Ellery and Jackson from the Fish Out of Water series, but Sean and Billy are on the sidelines. They somehow wind up with a case of their own, that leads to some shenanigan in the dog park (seriously hilarious), as well as the normal gut-wrenching, angsty family stuff that Amy Lane is infamous for.

We get to see what Ellery, Jackson and their crew appear like from the outside – avenging angels of chaotic good come to mind – as well as catch up with some of the other guys from the Flophouse. But what I enjoyed the absolute most about this story was the love that grew between Billy and Sean – how they got to know each other in embarrassing and touching situations; how they moved around each other as they tried to navigate something that they could never really have expected to happen; and how the cop and the porn star fell in love.

This one had me in tears a couple of times (some of them happy, some of them sad), and there were no quick fixes for any of the things that went on. I really enjoyed the glimpses into the other series (this slots in with the other Flophouse books as it falls into the same timelines), and there was an appearance from Dex and Tango who are a couple of my favourites from the Johnnies books.

This was a real pleasure to read and when I finished the story, I gave a happy sigh because not only was it full of epic adventure, family, porn stars and our favourite Fish duo, but the slices of domesticity and happiness were so good for the soul.

An easy 5/5 from me and I really can’t wait to read further books in this series.

Review: ⟫ Someone just needs to film this ish, release behind the scenes stuff, audition tapes, the whole thing because this series is just something else!

The Tech is about Stirling and Tienne, two young men who have been through far too much in their young lives who are not quite sure how they fit in with the Salinger’s team of loveable rogues. After all, they’re not the action-men – they’re the ones who create forgeries and sit on the computers doing all of the background stuff. They’re not the heroes or the mainstays of the family.

Amy Lane manages to create an action movie about family – found or by blood – whilst also weaving a love story between two young men who are not quite like everyone else. And she does it masterfully.

The latest con isn’t so much a con as a gift, and the whole family is in on it. We catch up with everyone from Michael and Carl, to learning more about Josh and Grace, to seeing more about how life doesn’t stay still. Felix and Danny have only just really settled into being together again with Julia by their side and Josh recovering when they have to consider how they will cope with a new person being within their midst (Leon is back and I am here for it because Julia deserves all the love).

I’m not sure there’s a man out there who could actually handle Molly – I feel like she needs someone who will be happy to be in the background, acting as a safe place for her to fall whilst allowing her to shine. But I kinda do need her to get her HEA too.

There are so many people to weave into this story that I think that might actually be part of the issue and why it’s a 4.5 instead of a 5 for me. It’s far too easy to get lost if you haven’t read everything that’s come before, and even if you have, cliff notes would really help. This Long Con adventure is turning into such a sprawling creation, that it’s in danger of getting out of control with so many characters and stories intertwined that it can be a little overwhelming.

Actually, thinking about it, maybe that’s why I related to both Stirling and Tienne so much – sometimes the Salingers as a group are just a bit much. I also found myself paying a lot of attention to Grace and worrying about him. His worry that he might become superfluous to Josh now that the young man is truly recovering touched my heart so much and I felt for him.

The love-making scenes were incredibly sweet whilst also being utterly filthy,and I adore the thought of Stirling researching all of the things he wanted to do and then putting his research into practice. The bad guys get their comeuppance in the best way, and the whole story was completely and utterly as described – think Guy Ritchie movie, or Ocean’s Eleven if that isn’t ageing me too much!

If you want a story that keeps you fully engaged, cheering, laughing and crying, then you can’t go wrong with picking up one of the Long Con Adventure stories and this is a worthy addition.

Review: ⟫ Well this one hit me right in the Christmas feels – especially as we’re in the process of packing up my youngest kid's stuff for the move into halls of residence in the new year. Who knew apron strings were really this tough to cut!

This was a beautiful story about what Christmas should mean – and it’s not about pageants, Christmas carols, presents or any of the extra stuff. It’s about love, caring, family and just being a good, genuine person. And yes, it made me sniffly more than once – not just at the tales of the kids who live at the shelter, but at how people can pull together and show you their hearts in the best possible way.

If you are looking to get into the Christmas mood, I highly recommend this story. It was sexy, sweet, touching and loving and – even in the tough moments of which there were more than a few – I never once doubted that Amy Lane would make it all okay in the end because she always does!

Review: ⟫ Firstly, I haven’t read the other books in the series which meant that I felt a little bit like I’d been thrown into the deep end from the beginning. I would say that although it can be read as a standalone, reading the other books will help you with all of the names and characters because for quite a while, I was absolutely lost.

Have you ever seen Ocean’s Eleven? The one with Brad Pitt and George Clooney? Think of it as settling down to watch Ocean’s Twelve or Thirteen – you know there’s history and backstory, that the previous versions were amusing and entertaining as heck, but you don’t have time to watch them first. That’s how I felt reading this book. There were so many characters involved, so much history that could obviously only be alluded to in this book. I felt like I was missing out but I didn’t really have time to read them before diving into this book.

Michael and Carl were absolutely lovely – they seemed like complete opposites who brought out the best in each other. Unfortunately, their relationship felt like it got more than a little bit lost in the whole heist/murder birds thing. The story was engaging and headed towards an entertaining set of circumstances that had both Michael and Carl being brave, courageous and romantic.

As always, Amy has written loveable characters who you care about; unusual circumstances and a whole entertaining roller-coaster ride that you couldn’t make up in your wildest dreams. This book was a lot of fun to read, and perhaps the previous ones will join my TBR pile. You know what you’re getting with an Amy Lane book and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this one.

Review: ⟫ The only thing Amy Lane does better than angst is create these sweet, adorkable characters that you can’t help but fall a little in love with, and she’s done it again with Taz and Selby.

At the risk of receiving hate, I’m not a real fan of little dogs. My experiences have all involved being yapped at or nipped, so not the best of friends in any way. But Ginger and Carl made me laugh so hard that I enjoyed them in all of their weirdos glory. This was a very sweet, gentle and quick read that was exactly what I needed what with the sledge hammer that real life is at the moment. Enjoyable, kind and sweet, I recommend this to anyone looking for a simple romance.

Review: ⟫ Oh my, this one was a delight!

I’ve never really gone for the grumpy/sunshine trope but I can definitely see the appeal having met Scout and Lucky. These two were so darned innocent yet so hurt by life that watching them together was just such a delight. Then add in a cast of characters ranging from a Hedge Witch trying to pay it back, a feisty sister free to figure out who she is, as well as other Luck Mechanics that appear, and I romped through this book in one sitting. The storyline was fun, sad, engrossing and entertaining; sometimes laugh out loud funny, and other times clutch at your heart sad. The sex scenes were sweet, hot and sexy, especially with Lucky still thinking that next time he’ll get to do things his way.

I really enjoyed the story, with gangsters and evil magicians out to spoil what sounds very much like paradise, but the romance between Lucky and Scout was really what swept me away. They just completely belonged to each other in all of their lustful innocence and commitment to each other. I am fascinated by Piers and can’t wait for his story which just has to be coming soon. Special mention to the strong women in this story who stood for no-nonsense and took care of things when ish needed to get done. I really hope Helen can forgive herself and find her own happiness.

In case this slightly effusive review didn’t make it clear, this is a stellar 4.5 from me, happily rounded up. I can’t wait to read more about the Luck Mechanics and have no hesitation in recommending.
