New Blood by L.C. Davis (The Godbearer Book #4)

Title: ⟫ New Blood (The Godbearer Book #4)

Author: ⟫ L.C. Davis

Rating: ⟫ 3/5

Blurb: ⟫ I know this will end the way it covered in blood.

Too much? Me being a demigod now and all, I figure I can get away with a pinch of melodrama.

I mean, have you seen Olympus? It's a damn soap opera up there. One I'd rather be watching on the couch with popcorn than playing a starring role in.

Not that things are much better down here. I'm still in denial over being madly in love with Cameron, the likely father of my twin babies and the far more evil twin of one of my three boyfriends. Because self-destruction is my brand, apparently.

Fortunately, so is being a vampire-taming, totally badass witch, and I'm going to do whatever it takes to keep my weird little cult-slash-family safe. And convince Cameron he belongs in the circus with the rest of us.

No biggie, right?

(Jk, send help. And nachos. I've been craving those lately.)

Review: ⟫ I was very excited about this book because somehow I convinced myself that it was the last one in the series. It isn’t – in fact, it feels like a very short interlude and very short book and I got cross.

The good bits:

* we spend a chunk of time with Chase and Cameron where they ironed out a few things The new body-sharing thing was interesting and the chemistry between the two of them was palpable;

* the front cover with Hades is absolutely stunning – truly beautiful and quite possibly my favourite cover for this series;

* as always, the writing is engaging and fun, with Chase’s inner dialogue full of snark and banter.

The not-so-good bits:

* how short it was. I read this in a couple of hours and was left feeling like I’d barely scratched the surface or moved forward in the story at all;

* yet another God falling for Chase felt a bit too much for my liking. There was so much going on already, I’m not sure we needed to add someone else to the mix;

* the storyline is getting a bit rinse and repeat-esque. Chase throws himself into danger, the vampires try to figure out how to help/save him, Chase gets himself out of danger with some sex sprinkled in.

I want to know how this story ends and that’s why I keep reading, but I am getting a bit irritated by how much it feels like it’s being dragged out. Maybe I should wait until the whole thing is completely finished and then read it all in one go. I will read what comes next but my excitement is waning.

Blue Blood by L.C. Davis (The Godbearer #3)

Title: ⟫ Blue Blood (The Godbearer book #3)

Authors: ⟫ L.C. Davis

Rating: ⟫ 4/5

Blurb: ⟫ If three's a crowd, what does that make four?

My love life, apparently. Now I'm on the run with Cyrus, Sam, and Alex, and that's not even accounting for the fact that I'm pregnant—with twins—and my overbearing mother is along for the ride.

Oh, and did I mention I found out Zeus is my father? Yeah, that Zeus. Turns out Cameron's not the only one who's been hunting me down. And I might have to rely on my not-so-absent dad to protect me from the relentless vampire who's probably the father of my children.

Can you get a bulk discount on paternity tests? Because I'm going to need around half a dozen to sort this shit out.

Review: ⟫ I thought this was the last book in the series, but nope, there is definitely more to come which is both a good and a bad thing. Good because this story is addictive, entertaining, innovative and enticing – this instalment was chock-full of Gods, enemies, the Ichor and Cameron being confusing as all hell. Bad because I thought we were going to get all of the answers and a conclusion but now I have to wait for the next instalment.

I actually stayed up all night reading this – I was so excited when I received the ARC that I decided sleep was for the weak (in retrospect, I am weak and need all of the sleep). It kept me entertained and glued to the page until the very end. We received POV from Alex, Cyrus and Cameron which I don’t remember so much from the first two books but they were appreciated.

Chase remains sassy and determined – I don’t know if I would have the guts to do what he did with Cameron and the river, and let’s not even go there with a certain dog! His men continue to muscle each other around for ‘pole’ position, and the plot continues apace. Most definitely an entertaining read and only one niggle really from me – there is a part of me that would have preferred the complete book in one giant blockbuster read, but then I’d probably need matchsticks to keep my eyes open!

I received an ARC from GRR.

Cold Blood by L.C. Davis (The Godbearer #2)

Title:
 ⟫ Cold Blood (The Godbearer Book 2)

Author: ⟫ L.C. Davis
Blurb: ⟫ I'm pregnant.

Just when I was starting to get used to being alone in my own head, now I’m possessed in a whole new way. And apparently, I’m an omega, which seems to be code for “magical thot who gets harassed by every alpha within a hundred miles.”

The worst part is, I don’t even know which one of these bloodthirsty douchebags knocked me up. With my luck, it’s probably Cameron, who sees me and the baby as a threat to his precious goddess, especially now that she’s gone MIA.

Weirdly enough, the news has caused a split within the cult, pitting brother against brother. Even though I thought they’d all be on the same side, now Sam, Cyrus, and (ugh) Alex claim they’ll do whatever it takes to protect me and the baby. Even if it means going up against Ichor and the rest of her cult.

Obviously, I don’t trust them. I might be a “dumb blond,” but I don’t need to get sacrificed twice to learn that lesson.

If only my traitorous heart would get the memo.

Blurb: ⟫ I knew 50% of the way through this book that I was going to be frustrated and I was right – I was so frustrated by the ending. I get it – I completely do – but there was a part of me that felt if they had just got a move on in the main part of the book, they wouldn’t have had to leave things on a cliffhanger.

To be fair, the story did move along at a fair clip – and it made sense in terms of Chase’s growing feelings for his harem. It also presented a surprise (probably not if you read between the lines at all) that made things more complicated. I enjoyed the interactions outside of the group, especially Sam’s grandmother and Chase’s mother, but the main focus of the book was on building the relationships within the group and seeing how feelings were changing. It was no longer simply about the Ichor and so much more about the men and how they felt now.

Even Cameron – it feels like we’re being steered in one direction but that it’s a misdirect. I can’t help but think that he’s going to surprise everyone.

It was an engrossing, hot read and I’m really pleased I read it, but now there’s the wait until the third book and that’s going to be so frustrating. If you enjoyed the first story, you’ll enjoy this but be prepared for a wait for book 3.
